I wanted to take an opportunity to express my opinion. Yes, I am fully prepared for the outlashing so please feel free to take your shots....It's regarding training, weight loss, and the entire holiday season....RELAX!
I see so many articles and news feeds talking about losing weight during this time of year. If you want my honest opinion....Don't bother trying. If you don't solid eating habits before the family gatherings and Christmas parties start, odds are you will fail. The stress of the holidays is hard enough. There is no need to add the stress of a new diet plan as well.
I am not saying to skip all your workouts and eat nothing but garbage!
My Thoughts:
With only about 2 weeks remaining in the year, I say enjoy it. What does this mean? It means that if you get into the gym, great. If you can't due to a busy schedule, don't worry about it. Do your best to eat well on slow days, but at the same time enjoy some of your favorite foods that only come around once a year. I swear my wife's homemade Chex Mix is my weakest link this time of year.
This is not a free ticket to sit on your butt consuming cookies and egg nog. Just relax and enjoy the time with friends and family.
As far as workouts and training goes. When was the last time you took any time off? If you have not a week off in 6 months, now is the perfect time. Personally I leave the last 6 weeks of the year as a "freestyle" cycle. This means I can basically do what I want, when I want, if I want. By the end of the that 6 weeks, I am hungry to train, my body is rested, mind is focused and new goals have been written down.
Now...The first week in January...GET TO WORK! The vacation is over and it's time to chase new goals, train smart, and get back on the wagon. If your eating habits need work, now is the time to fix them (before tackling a new extreme training program).
